2017 Anniversary Banquet
What a memorable 79th anniversary banquet we had this year. A visit and inspiring words from our department commander and Auxiliary President was overshadowed by the attendance of Life Member Edwin Leibbrand who was a WWII POW in Germany. Attendees were captivated by the story of Edwin’s capture during the Battle of the Bulge and the four months he spent in captivity. When he was liberated by Patton’s troops in 1945 he was severely malnourished and ill. But after months in the hospital, he returned to the states and was discharged in 1946. What a story! We then gave this 93 year old American hero, who still volunteers at Motts Museum, items to recognize his service to country. What an honor it was for me to meet this man. We also presented membership pins to several of our group and awarded one life membership. Lastly, 80 souls sang “God Bless America” and we departed for the night. If you didn’t attend, you really missed a good time.
